Internet Explorer Freezes or Crashes or Closes
- Add-on Installed recently causing conflicts.
- Latest Windows Updates not installed.
- Explorer settings not properly configured.
- Virus or malware infection.
- Tap or click the Tools button and then tap or click Manage add-ons.
- Under Show, tap or click All Add-ons and then disable all of them by tapping or clicking each one and then selecting Disable.
- Restart Internet Explorer and test.
- If you can successfully access the internet then the issue is with an installed add-on. Re-enable each add-on one at a time and test to verify what add-on is causing the issue.
- If you cannot connect then go to Step 2
- Running Windows Update can often correct problems by replacing out-of-date files, updating drivers and fixing vulnerabilities.
- Open the Windows Update applet from the Control Panel or by entering Windows Update in the Search Bar in the start button.
- Check if any important or optional updates are available. if they are, then click on Install Update.
- If after Installing Windows Update the problem is not fixed go to Step 3.
- Click Start, type msconfig in the search box, and then click the displayed System Configuration icon.
- Click the Services tab and check the box beside Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
- Next, click the Startup tab. Click Disable all in the bottom right and then click OK.
- You will be prompted to reboot your computer. After the reboot, test Internet Explorer for connection.
