Problem Description:
Outlook.com and other webmail providers like Gmail and Yahoo Mail, provide the ability to reset password that you may have forgotten. You can also reset password for accounts that you suspect have been hacked and want to block the hacker from using the account.

Instructions for Resetting Outlook.com Password :
Step 1 : Resetting Password with Phone Linked to Account
  1. This method works for users who had provided phone number during the sign up.
  2. Visit Outlook.com login page, and select I forgot my password option and then click Reset your password option that appears just below I forgot my password. This will take you to the reset your password page.
  3. Type in your email address and then enter the Captcha characters that will be shown on this page. This character code is designed to block robots from mining Outlook.com accounts. Hit the Next button.
  4. You will see two password reset options: Email me a rest link and Send a code to my phone. Select the first option to receive password with a code as an SMS to the phone.
  5. Use the code provided to sign into your Outlook.com and enter your new password, reenter the password to confirm and finally click Next button.
Step 2 : Resetting Password with Alternative Email Address Linked to Account
  1. This method works for users who had provided alternative email address during the sign up.
  2. The steps you undertake are the same as above, except instead of selecting Send a code to my phone, you should select Email me a rest link.
  3. Sign in to your alternate email address to see account password reset email from Microsoft account team.
  4. Clicking on the reset link will take you to Reset your password where you need enter your new password, reenter the password to confirm and finally click Next button.
