How to Upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1
- Not applicable.
- Backup important files and applications that you have on your computer. The upgrade process will not replace them but it is always a good idea to create a backup.
- You need about 3 Gigabytes of free space on your hard drive. So make sure you have it before you start the upgrade.
- Make sure the latest Windows 8 updates have been installed. These may be required for the upgrade to Windows 8.1.
- Go to Windows 8 Store app, click or tap on Windows 8.1, if you cannot see the update on the Store home screen you may need to contact Microsoft or get help from a qualified technician.
- When you click Windows 8.1 will automatically download and install in the background. So no need to stop using your PC during this process.
- After the update is downloaded and the first phase of the installation is complete you'll see a message telling you that your PC needs to restart.
- Save the work you have been doing and restart the computer.
- You will be offered a list of default or express settings. If you are not technically savvy, we recommend you accept these "express" settings.
- You will be then asked to sign in. You can use the same Windows 8 account that you had created and used prior to the upgrade.
